Several hospitals in Belgium have temporarily taken their online patient portals offline after a cyberattack targeted Dutch software company ChipSoft, which supplies hospital digital systems.
The disruption affects hospitals including:
- Hospital aan de Stroom in Antwerp
- Hospital Oost-Limburg
- Delta Hospital in Roeselare
Hospital officials say the cyberattack did not directly damage their internal systems, and normal healthcare services are still running. However, access to online patient records and digital portals has been suspended temporarily as a safety measure.
A spokesperson for Hospital aan de Stroom added that there is currently no sign patient data has been stolen or compromised.
In simple terms, patients may face some inconvenience when trying to access online medical records or hospital digital services, but treatment and hospital operations are continuing normally.
The incident highlights growing cybersecurity concerns in the healthcare sector, where hospitals increasingly rely on digital systems to manage patient information and services.
