Guinea has officially disbanded 40 political parties for failing to meet legal obligations, according to a decree broadcast on national television Friday evening. The measure takes effect immediately, stripping the parties of legal and juridical status.

Several prominent political organizations are affected, including the Union des Forces Democratiques de Guinee (UFDG) led by former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo, the Rassemblement du Peuple de Guinee – Arc-en-ciel (RPG Arc-en-ciel) founded by former President Alpha Conde, and the Union des Forces Republicaines (UFR) headed by former Prime Minister Sidya Toure.

The decree, issued by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, prohibits all political activities in the name of the dissolved parties, both domestically and in diplomatic missions abroad. In addition, party headquarters and branches will be sealed, with assets sequestered until a liquidator distributes them.

The move comes as Guinea prepares for legislative and municipal elections scheduled for May 24, 2026, and is likely to reshape the political landscape in the lead-up to the vote.
