Madagascar’s President Michael Randrianirina has announced a new 30-member Cabinet, marking a major political reshuffle following the dismissal of the previous administration and prime minister.
The newly formed government, unveiled at Lavoloha Palace near the capital Antananarivo, includes a mix of continuity and renewal, with 17 returning ministers and 13 new appointees. The cabinet also features nine women, reflecting efforts toward broader representation.
The reshuffle follows the recent appointment of Prime Minister Mamitiana Rajaonarison, a former anti-corruption official and head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, signaling a focus on governance and institutional reform.
This move represents Randrianirina’s first major restructuring since taking power after protests led to the departure of former president Andry Rajoelina last October.
The new administration is expected to steer the country through a transitional period under the “Refoundation of the Republic” framework, with presidential elections planned for next year.
The changes highlight Madagascar’s ongoing political reset as authorities seek to stabilize institutions and prepare for a return to democratic governance.
