Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that halting Israeli attacks on Lebanon is a key condition tied to the recent ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington, underscoring the complexity of ongoing regional tensions.
Speaking during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, Pezeshkian revealed that the cessation of Israeli strikes on Lebanon forms part of a broader set of ten شروط attached to the agreement with the United States. He also emphasized France’s role as a guarantor of previous ceasefire arrangements in Lebanon.
The discussion comes just one day after Iran and the United States announced a two-week ceasefire aimed at paving the way for a comprehensive agreement to end hostilities involving Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran, which began on February 28.
Despite this diplomatic breakthrough, the situation on the ground remains volatile. Israeli forces carried out a series of large-scale airstrikes across Lebanon, resulting in at least 254 deaths and over 1,100 injuries, according to Lebanese civil defense authorities.
While Iranian and Pakistani officials maintain that Lebanon is included within the ceasefire framework, Israel has rejected this interpretation, insisting that the country is not part of the agreement.
This divergence highlights the fragile and contested nature of the truce, as diplomatic efforts struggle to contain escalating violence and prevent a broader regional conflict.
