A senior commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Major General al-Nour Adam, also known as “Qubba,” has defected to join the Sudanese national army in one of the most significant developments since the conflict began.
He was received by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in the Northern Province near the Egyptian border, where authorities emphasized openness to further defections. In a public statement, Burhan called on other fighters to lay down their arms and contribute to rebuilding the country.
Footage released by Sudan’s ruling authorities showed Adam accompanied by a group of soldiers who also switched allegiance, highlighting a potentially widening rift within RSF ranks.
The defection comes at a time when Sudan is grappling with what humanitarian organizations describe as one of the world’s most severe crises. The ongoing conflict has led to mass displacement, widespread famine, and continued violence, with no immediate resolution in sight.
