Guinea’s ruling party won a landslide in parliamentary and local elections, the electoral body said Friday.

The elections last Sunday were a step towards a return to democratic rule after a 2021 coup in the West African country.

President Mamady Doumbouya’s Generation for Modernity and Development movement won a majority of the 147 seats in the National Assembly as well as in municipal councils, according to provisional results announced by the General Directorate of Elections.

The supreme court is to announce the final results in around two weeks.

Doumbouya was elected president for a seven-year term in December.
