Italy has summoned Russia’s ambassador after offensive comments were made about Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Russian television.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he called in Aleksey Paramonov to formally protest the remarks and express full support for Meloni.
The controversy stems from statements made by Vladimir Solovyov, who insulted the Italian leader during a broadcast.
Italian officials described the comments as “extremely serious and offensive,” prompting a diplomatic response.
The incident highlights rising tensions between Italy and Russia, where media rhetoric is increasingly spilling over into official diplomatic relations.
