Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, welcomed progress in talks and pledged to move quickly toward a new programme to support the country’s recovery, the West African country’s presidency said on X on Tuesday.
Georgieva met Faye at IMF headquarters in Washington and discussed Senegal’s economic policy priorities.
After the talks, she said the IMF and Senegal had a “strong partnership” and were working “expeditiously toward a new Fund-supported programme.”
“Senegal has made encouraging progress in strengthening the economy and improving the outlook for investments, jobs and growth,” Georgieva said in a separate statement.
Georgieva also welcomed the authorities’ intention to pursue a debt treatment and said Senegal was determined to restore fiscal sustainability quickly.
