Niamey, November 26 (ANP) – On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, met with a delegation from the Niger Farmer’s Platform (PFPN), led by President Djibo Bagna.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the platform’s president addressed the press, stating, “We have come to present to the Prime Minister the upcoming land policy forum, which will be held from November 28 to 30 in Dosso.” This forum will bring together regional, departmental, and community officials, traditional leaders, technical services, as well as producer organizations including breeders, farmers, and fishermen, all united for a shared vision.
Mr. Djibo Bagna added, “Since the adoption of the land policy, we have received support from two partners to create a caravan, which has allowed us to identify a series of challenges that deserve consultation among various stakeholders.”
During the forum, he stated, “We will discuss the role of each stakeholder, how we will organize ourselves to respect our commitment to the liberation of the land with zero bloodshed.”
He further emphasized, “Despite the insecurity in the country, farmers and herders continue to fight for the natural resources that should allow us to live with dignity.” He also remarked that, “During this forum, we will exchange ideas with officials, enabling us to make recommendations for the implementation of this policy, so that we never again face these conflicts that bring grief to farming or herding families.”
Finally, he noted, “Over the course of three days of discussions with knowledgeable, experienced leaders, we will exchange and propose roadmaps to present to the authorities.”
It is worth noting that this meeting took place in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Colonel Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane, his advisors, and the central directors of the ministry’s departments.
