The Community of Sahel-Saharan States has officially resumed its activities at its headquarters in Tripoli, marking a significant step in Libya’s regional reintegration.

The reopening ceremony brought together Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, alongside foreign ministers and permanent representatives from member states. Following the ribbon-cutting event, Dbeibeh held high-level discussions with attending delegations to address the organization’s future direction.

In his remarks, the Libyan leader described the resumption of CEN-SAD activities as a clear indication of Libya’s return to a more active role in African and regional affairs. He emphasized that hosting African delegations in Tripoli strengthens the country’s diplomatic standing and reflects growing international confidence after years of instability.

Founded in 1988 in Tripoli, CEN-SAD aims to promote economic integration and coordinated development among its 25 member states. The organization holds observer status at the United Nations and plays a role in fostering cooperation across the Sahel-Saharan region.

Its operations had been suspended for an extended period due to Libya’s civil conflict. The resumption of activities at its original headquarters now signals a renewed effort to revive regional collaboration and restore Libya’s influence on the African continent.
