Heavy rains across Kenya have caused landslides and flooding that killed at least 18 people, according to the National Police Service.
The worst-affected areas include Tharaka Nithi County, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, and Kiambu County, where mudslides have destroyed homes and forced many families to evacuate.
Emergency teams have been deployed to rescue stranded residents, provide aid, and move people away from high-risk zones. Authorities are also working to identify vulnerable areas to prevent further loss of life.
The rains are part of Kenya’s seasonal “long rains,” which often bring severe flooding, especially in regions with poor drainage or unstable terrain. Officials are urging people in affected areas to stay alert and follow safety advice.
This latest tragedy adds to earlier flooding this year, which had already claimed dozens of lives, showing how dangerous the rainy season can be.
