Inflation Research Group (ENAG) announced inflation data for May. According to ENAG data, the Consumer Price Index (E-CPI) increased by 5.66 percent in May. The increase in E-CPI for the last 12 months was 120.66 percent.

The highest increase was in household goods

When TURKSTAT subgroups are taken as indicators, the highest increase was realized in the “Household goods” item with 11.39 percent. “Household goods” was followed by “Clothing and footwear” with 11.11 percent. The highest monthly decrease was in the health group with 0.00 percent.

ENAG had announced the April inflation rate as 5.02 percent. According to ENAG, the last 12-month increase in E-CPI in April was realized as 124.35 percent.

Istanbul’s inflation

Leading indicators also pointed to an increase in inflation in May. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) stated that retail prices in the city increased by 3.59 percent and wholesale prices by 2.59 percent in May compared to the previous month. On an annual basis, the rate of increase was 82.20 percent in retail and 61.21 percent in wholesale goods.
