Niamey, November 20, 2024 (ANP) – Lieutenant Colonel Salissou Mahaman Salissou, Vice President of the National Committee for Flood Prevention and Management, received a contribution of 671,500 francs on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from a collective composed of three associations working for change in a “New Niger.”
These associations include Booster de Performance, Monpart, and Icon, established by the Nigerien diaspora in France.
Thus, the contribution received by the management committee represents the proceeds from a paid conference organized by the collective, aimed at supporting flood victims, under the theme “Change for a New Niger.”
After receiving this contribution, the Vice President of the Committee expressed gratitude for this initiative, which aims to support populations affected by the floods.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Salissou, “This contribution is a noble gesture that should be welcomed and encouraged,” while assuring the donors that their contributions will go directly to the beneficiaries.
“On behalf of President of the Republic, Major General Abdourahamane Tiani, and Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, the highest authorities, I would like to thank you for making national support for the victims a priority and for encouraging all goodwill to support our people,” said the Vice President of the Committee.
“Many initiatives have been taken to support the state, and yours comes in the same spirit,” said Lieutenant Colonel Salissou Mahaman Salissou, requesting the generous donors to “convey their thanks and the gratitude of the people to all the members of these associations.”
Lieutenant Colonel Salissou Mahaman Salissou also reminded that the floods are a natural phenomenon linked to climate change, affecting the entire Sahel region.
“Despite the loss of lives and property caused by these floods, we harvested a lot, and our animals will still find plenty of grazing land,” he said.
Earlier, the representative of these associations, Mr. Hamidou Halidou, stated, “Beyond this conference, we want to launch an initiative called Friday+, which will involve inviting all Nigeriens to participate in a solidarity day, contributing every Friday in kind or cash to support populations affected by the floods.”
Halidou explained that “Friday+ is an initiative where Nigeriens will contribute every Friday in kind or cash to support the affected populations.”
Mr. Hamidou Halidou assured that “under the umbrella of the Solidarity Fund, this initiative will be national, ensuring that all Nigeriens feel involved in this process.”
He also emphasized that “these associations share a common vision of a Niger where everyone comes together,” inviting everyone to participate.
