The Premier League will allow matches to be briefly stopped at sunset during Ramadan so Muslim players can break their fast, according to British media reports.
Match officials will check before kickoff if any players are fasting. If so, the game may be paused at iftar, giving players a quick chance to take fluids or energy supplements before play continues.
This practice was first widely noticed in 2021 during a Leicester City vs Crystal Palace match, when Wesley Fofana and Cheikhou Kouyaté were allowed to break their fast mid-game.
Since then, these short pauses have become more common in English football. While not an official rule change, the move has been praised as a respectful and practical way to support players observing Ramadan without disrupting the match.
