Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Türkiye, said the country serves as an example of religious freedom where people from different faiths can live together and practise their beliefs peacefully.
Speaking during an iftar dinner with representatives of religious minority communities at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s tradition of coexistence and mutual respect among religions. He said communities are free to maintain their religious institutions and practise their faith without restriction.
However, the Turkish leader warned that the rise of Islamophobia in recent years threatens social harmony and the culture of living together. He said hostility toward Muslims is growing in many parts of the world and should be taken seriously.
Erdogan also condemned extremist groups such as Daesh, accusing them of attacking places of worship without regard for whether they are mosques, churches or synagogues.
He stressed that hatred against any religion must be rejected, describing both Islamophobia and antisemitism as serious crimes against humanity that cannot be justified.
