Ghana’s President Mahama has appointed a task force to recover embezzled public funds.
Ghana’s newly elected President John Mahama announced on December 19 that he has appointed a task force to oversee the recovery of public funds embezzled in recent years. According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for Mahama’s transition team, the five-member group aims to recover money and assets stolen due to corruption and hold those responsible accountable. Combating corruption was one of Mahama’s key priorities during his presidential campaign. The task force will consist of Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo, retired police chief Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, lawyer Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer. Mahama is set to take the presidential oath on January 7.
