In his New Year’s speech, Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo reviewed the achievements of 2024 and outlined his vision for 2025, focusing on infrastructure development and economic transformation.
On Sunday, President Umaro Sissoco Embalo delivered his traditional year-end address, highlighting key progress made in 2024 and presenting his vision for 2025. The head of state particularly emphasized the strengthening of the country’s international standing and the development of national infrastructure.
Among the notable achievements, the president mentioned several infrastructure projects, including the improvement of the road network connecting Bissau, Bafatá, and Gabu, as well as the construction of strategic bridges over the João Landim and Farim rivers. In the energy sector, he highlighted the expansion of the electricity grid in partnership with the Organisation for the Development of the Gambia River (OMVG) and the development of solar energy in Bolama.
In healthcare, the president underscored the significance of modernizing the Guinea-Bissau/China Friendship Military Hospital, describing it as a “major scientific and technological advancement” for the benefit of all Bissau-Guineans.
On the economic front, President Embalo stressed the need for a structural transformation of the economy, particularly through the development of subsistence agriculture. He emphasized the importance of reducing dependence on food imports to better control inflation.
Finally, President Embalo concluded his speech by highlighting the youth, whom he sees as “the bearers of the country’s future,” calling for a reform of the education system and increased investment in scientific and technological training.
