Gabon is facing growing fiscal pressure as authorities prepare to manage heavy financial obligations expected in 2026 under the country’s National Development Transition Plan.

According to projections, debt servicing could reach nearly 2,500 billion CFA francs this year, representing roughly a quarter of the country’s national wealth. The scale of these financial commitments places Gabon in one of the most delicate economic periods in its recent history.

In this context, a mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded a week-long visit to Libreville, where discussions focused on the country’s economic outlook and reform priorities.

At the end of the visit, the IMF urged Gabonese authorities to accelerate key structural reforms, including improving public financial management, strengthening governance, enhancing the business climate and intensifying efforts to combat corruption.

Talks between Gabon and the IMF are expected to continue in the coming weeks as the government seeks solutions to ease budgetary pressures and support economic stability.
