The government of Mali will rename ECOWAS Boulevard to AES Boulevard in Bamako.
According to a government decree announced on December 18 in the capital, Bamako, the names of several streets, monuments, and institutions will be changed. The aim of these changes is to strengthen the country’s cultural identity and distance itself from the former French colonial power. Under the new regulation, names associated with the colonial era, such as Archinard and Federer, will be replaced with the names of prominent African historical figures like Soundjata Keïta, Kankou Moussa, and Babemba Traoré. These renaming changes are intended to honor Mali’s national history and celebrate the cultural heritage of its people.
