Istanbul Airport has officially become Europe’s busiest airport, handling an average of 1,395 flights per day between April 20 and 26, according to data from EUROCONTROL.

This puts Istanbul ahead of some of Europe’s biggest aviation hubs. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol came in second with 1,390 daily flights, followed by Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, London Heathrow Airport, and Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport.

The ranking highlights Istanbul’s growing importance as a global travel hub, connecting Europe, Asia, and beyond. Its strategic location and expanding airline network have helped it overtake long-established airports in Western Europe.

This milestone also reflects a broader recovery in air travel, with flight numbers rising across the continent.
