The Istanbul Governorate has announced the teams on duty for New Year’s, the measures in place in the city, the roads that will be closed to traffic, and alternative routes.
This evening, security measures will be implemented at the highest level throughout the city, particularly in areas where large crowds are expected for New Year’s Eve, as announced by the Istanbul Governorate. “Our Police, Gendarmerie, and Coast Guard units, with a total of 60,068 personnel, will be on duty to ensure our citizens can welcome 2025 in peace. Additionally, the fight against illegal immigration with mobile migration vehicles will continue without interruption throughout the New Year. As part of the New Year measures, the entry of trucks, trailers, concrete mixers, and other heavy vehicles into the districts of Sarıyer, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Fatih, Bakırköy, Zeytinburnu, and Kadıköy will be prohibited from 08:00 today until 08:00 tomorrow,” the announcement stated.
To ensure food safety for citizens, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, health services 112, and the Provincial Directorate of Health, along with the Provincial Directorate of Commerce teams to prevent price gouging, will be on duty this evening. Inspections will also continue regarding unregistered rentals in houses and hotels.
The announcement also stated that support teams for potential phone, internet, and natural gas outages will be on standby, as well as fire, municipal police, and AFAD teams to respond to any emergencies.
Regarding security measures, the announcement detailed that “Istanbul’s Police Department will deploy 10,498 teams (8,731 teams, 1,767 traffic teams), 4 helicopters, 7 detection dogs, 10 boats, and 55,225 personnel, the Provincial Gendarmerie will deploy 713 teams, 724 vehicles, and 4,530 personnel, and the Coast Guard will provide services at 25 points with 33 units and 313 personnel.”
Road Closures
The announcement revealed that as part of the New Year measures, starting at 14:00, 16 streets and 12 alleys leading to Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu, 3 streets and 4 alleys in Şişli, and 1 street and 3 alleys in Beşiktaş will be closed to traffic.
The closed streets and alleys in Beyoğlu starting at 14:00 are as follows:
- Istiklal Street and all streets and alleys leading to it,
- Tarık Zafer Tunaya Street, Sıraselviler Street, and Hocazade Street leading to Taksim Square,
- Asmalı Mescit Street, Dünya Sağlık Street, and Osmanlı Street,
- Zambak Street on Tarlabaşı Boulevard, Atıf Yılmaz Street (Sakızağacı Taxi Station), and Balo Street.
Alternative routes will be Tarlabaşı Boulevard, Meclis-i Mebusan, Mete, İnönü, Kemeraltı, Refik Saydam, and Tersane.
In Şişli, starting at 14:00, Mim Kemal Öke Street, Vali Konağı Street, and Abdi İpekçi Street will be closed. Drivers will be redirected to Teşvikiye, Valikonağı, Rumeli, Halaskargazi, and Cumhuriyet streets.
In Beşiktaş, starting at 14:00, Kuruçeşme Street will be closed from the intersection of Kireçhane Sokak to Alay Emini Sokak. Traffic will be redirected towards the Ulus neighborhood. Drivers can use Yeşilpınar, Yol Sokak, and Ahmet Adnan Saygun Street as alternatives.
Road Closures in Kadıköy
In Kadıköy, starting at 14:00, intersections at General Asım Gündüz Street and Kırtasiyeci Sokak, and streets such as Nailbey, Nazmi Bey, Sakız Gülü, Dr. İhsan Ünlüer, and Şair Latifi will be closed.
Other closed streets in the district include intersections at Söğütlüçeşme Street and Bestekar Dilhayat, and Dr. Esat Işık Street and Bademaltı Sokak. Additional closures include Badem Altı Sokak to Ruşenağa Sokak, Dalga Sokak to Moda Street, and Leylek Sokak to Fırıldak Sokak.
Other closures in Kadıköy are as follows:
- Intersection of Tuğlacı Emin Bey Sokak and Cemal Süreya Sokak,
- Intersection of Damga Sokak and Mühürdar Bağı Sokak,
- Intersection of Mühürdar Caddesi and Damga Sokak,
- Intersection of Damga Sokak and Albay Faik Sözener Caddesi,
- Intersection of Albay Faik Sözener Caddesi and Misbah Muayyes Sokak,
- Intersection of Albay Faik Sözener Caddesi and Muvakkithane Caddesi,
- Intersection of İskele Polis Merkezi Amirliği and Damga Sokak (no traffic towards Moda).
In Caddebostan, all streets leading to Caddebostan İskele Sokak will be closed based on traffic density. Alternative routes in Kadıköy will include General Asım Gündüz, Dr. Esat Işık, Rıhtım, and Söğütlüçeşme Streets, Çetin Emeç Boulevard, and Abdulkadir Noyan Sokak.
