Far-right activist and politician Michael Stürzenberger, who was the leader of the German Freedom Party (AfD) between 2013 and 2016, and some members of the Bürgerbewegung Pax Europa (BPE) movement organized a demonstration in Mannheim today. During the demonstration, a knife-wielding attacker attacked and injured Stürzenberger and some members of the BPE movement. In the footage circulated on social media, it was seen that the attacker stabbed a police officer in the neck and was shot by the police.

The Bürgerbewegung Pax Europa (BPE) movement said in a statement that Michael Stürzenberger, a policeman and some members of the BPE movement were stabbed in Mannheim this morning.“Today at around 11.35 a.m. several people were attacked in the market square in Mannheim. One person attacked several people with a knife and injured them. The extent and seriousness of the injuries are not yet known. A firearm was then used against the attacker. As a result, the attacker was also injured. Rescue and emergency services as well as a rescue helicopter are on duty. There is no danger to the public. Rail traffic between Kurpfalzkreisel and Paradeplatz is closed until further notice.”
