Urgent negotiations are underway between the United States and Iran, with mediators trying to secure a 45-day ceasefire that could open the door to ending the war.

According to officials, the talks—supported by countries like Türkiye, Egypt, and Pakistan—are seen as a final chance to prevent a major escalation across the region.

Donald Trump has set a tight deadline for a deal, warning that failure to reach an agreement could lead to attacks on Iranian infrastructure. Iran, in turn, has threatened retaliation that could hit energy and water facilities across the Gulf.

The proposed plan has two stages:

  • A 45-day ceasefire to pause fighting
  • Longer-term negotiations on key issues like Iran’s nuclear program and reopening the Strait of Hormuz

These issues are critical because the strait is a major route for global oil supplies, and disruptions there affect the entire world economy.

Despite ongoing discussions, chances of an immediate deal remain uncertain. Iranian officials have also expressed concern about temporary ceasefires, fearing they may not last.

In simple terms, the next couple of days are crucial—either diplomacy succeeds, or the conflict could expand dramatically with global consequences.
