Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, ahead of the ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum. His arrival was confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry, which said Lavrov is scheduled to hold talks with a number of African foreign ministers on the sidelines of the event.
The two-day conference has brought together the foreign ministers of all African states, as well as the heads of executive bodies of the continent’s regional integration organizations. The forum aims to further strengthen political and economic relations between Russia and African countries.
According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, trade, economic cooperation and investment will be at the center of the agenda. Participants will also review the implementation of the action plan adopted at the second Russia–Africa Summit held in St. Petersburg in 2023 and discuss concrete steps to ensure its full implementation.
The discussions are intended to prepare the ground for the third Russia–Africa Summit, scheduled for 2026, with a focus on achieving tangible results and launching new joint initiatives. While the venue of the 2026 summit has yet to be announced, Lavrov’s visit to Cairo is seen as part of Moscow’s broader strategy to deepen its engagement with the African continent.
