Mali is going through a serious crisis after a wave of coordinated attacks by armed groups across the country. Fighters linked to extremist groups and separatists launched assaults on multiple towns, including areas near the capital, Bamako. Roads leading into the city have been blocked, making travel dangerous and disrupting daily life.
What’s even more alarming is that authorities say some Malian military officers secretly helped plan and carry out these attacks. According to investigators, these insiders worked with groups like Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) and the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), raising serious concerns about trust within the army.
The situation on the ground is also worsening. The army has withdrawn from key northern areas like Kidal and Tessalit, allowing separatist fighters to take control. These losses are a major blow to the military government led by Assimi Goïta, who has promised to keep fighting until stability is restored.
For ordinary people, the impact is immediate and dangerous. With roads blocked and attacks continuing, travel has become risky, and businesses are suffering. Some transport services have already stopped operating, leaving many stranded.
Mali has faced years of violence, but this new wave—combined with internal betrayal—shows how complex and fragile the situation has become.
