Thousands of Iranians gathered nationwide to honor Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli strike on February 28, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing regional conflict.

Holding portraits and waving national flags, supporters participated in large-scale rallies across the country, with major gatherings in Tehran, as well as in Urmia and Gorgan. The demonstrations coincided with the 40-day mourning period, a significant observance in Islamic tradition.

Participants expressed strong condemnation of the attack and voiced opposition to upcoming diplomatic talks expected to take place in Pakistan. Many described the killing of Khamenei as a “red line” violation, reflecting deep public anger toward the United States and Israel.

Khamenei, who led Iran for over 36 years, was 86 at the time of his death. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, succeeded him in early March but has not yet appeared publicly, reportedly due to injuries sustained during the strike.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended the commemorations, joining citizens in tribute events broadcast on state media.

The ceremony began at the exact time of the strike that killed Khamenei and several senior officials, underscoring the symbolic weight of the moment as Iran navigates both mourning and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
