Around 2,600 people have fled their homes in Sudan’s North Kordofan region in just two days, according to the International Organization for Migration.
The civilians escaped from the towns of Abu Haraz and Kazgil after security conditions rapidly deteriorated. Most have now taken shelter in the Sheikan district, but conditions remain uncertain and tense.
The crisis is part of a much larger conflict in Sudan that began in April 2023. Fighting between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has devastated the country.
So far, tens of thousands of people have been killed, and about 13 million have been forced from their homes. Many areas are also facing severe food shortages, pushing parts of the country toward famine.
Aid groups warn that the situation is still very unstable, with more displacement likely if violence continues.
