According to the latest data from S&P Global Commodity Insights, Morocco holds a strategic position in the import of American thermal coal.

Between January and October 2024, Morocco imported 4.3 million metric tons of thermal coal, ranking second in the world behind India. India topped the list with 10.4 million metric tons of coal imports during the same period.

This achievement highlights Morocco’s growing significance in the international coal market. The Kingdom of Cherifian has outperformed major consumer countries such as Egypt, China, and Japan, showcasing a remarkable performance. This reflects the country’s strategic moves in the energy sector and its efforts to diversify its energy supply.
