Niger’s Minister of Education, Elisabeth Shérif, officially inaugurated the country’s first science college in the Sorey region of Niamey.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of Niamey, Brigadier General Abdou Assoumane Harouna, and Ministry officials. This project is part of Niger’s efforts to increase investments in scientific education and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
Minister Shérif emphasized that the project is a key component of the National Council for Safeguarding the Homeland (CNSP)’s strategic plan, and noted that the President is closely following this process. She also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and all stakeholders in the education sector who supported the project.
Project Objectives:
- To expand scientific education and guide students toward scientific fields.
- To contribute to the country’s development by enhancing human capital.
- To prepare talented individuals in scientific fields and elevate Niger’s position internationally.
A Modern Educational Institution
The new science college is equipped with modern infrastructure to meet the needs of students:
- Administrative block and well-equipped classrooms
- Library and infirmary
- Separate cafeterias and dormitories for male and female students
Messages from the Minister and the Governor
Minister Shérif expressed high expectations for the students’ success in scientific fields, stating, “This school will be a symbol of our national unity, and the students who study here will be the scientists of the future.” Governor Harouna added, “You are the hope of Niger. This school is an important step toward our country’s progress in science,” and wished the students success.
As part of Niger’s broader education reform goals, this new science college brings together students from various regions of the country.
