A Paris court found French footballer Paul Pogba’s brother and five others guilty of attempting to rob the World Cup champion.
According to French media, a court in Paris found French footballer Paul Pogba’s brother and five others guilty of attempting to rob the World Cup champion.
According to L’Equipe newspaper, Mathias Pogba was sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of organized robbery and attempted robbery, with two years of his sentence suspended. He will not serve a prison sentence but will be required to wear an electronic bracelet for one year.
The other five defendants, who were childhood friends of Pogba, were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 3 to 8 years.
Pogba Delivered the Money
Paul Pogba, who has played for the English club Manchester United and Italy’s Juventus, said in March 2022 that he was targeted in a robbery and gave €100,000 ($104,000) to those who had threatened him.
Mathias Pogba’s lawyer, Mbeko Tabula, told RMC Sport that his client was shocked and would appeal the decision.
“He has maintained his innocence from the beginning,” he said. “He says he was manipulated, coerced, and pressured, and he would never act negatively towards his brother.”
34-year-old Mathias Pogba played football in Guinea and in Europe’s lower leagues.
Banned Substance
Reuters reached out to Paul Pogba’s representatives for a comment.
Paul Pogba, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, was banned from playing until March after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, which increases testosterone levels.
Now 31 years old, Pogba hopes to revive his career after Juventus announced last month that it had mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
The player, who last played for France in 2022 and could not compete in the World Cup in Qatar due to knee surgery, is aiming to make a comeback.
