The Russian Minister of Energy, Sergey Tsivilev, previously expressed hopes that Russian companies would participate in the construction of solar and wind energy plants in Senegal. During the phone call between the leaders, various topics were discussed, including trade, economy, and investment, with a focus on these energy projects.
The Kremlin statement highlighted, “The active engagement of Russian businesses with Senegalese partners is expected to lead to the implementation of promising projects in energy, transportation, and agriculture.” These projects are anticipated to make a significant contribution to the economic relations between the two countries.
Instability and Security in the Sahel Region
The leaders also discussed instability in the Sahel region and West Africa. They exchanged views on how security issues in the region should be addressed through regional cooperation.
Invitation for a Visit from Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin invited his Senegalese counterpart for an official visit to Russia. The Kremlin announced that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye had gladly accepted the invitation.
This conversation is seen as a crucial step toward expanding cooperation between Russia and Senegal in strategic sectors such as energy, transportation, and agriculture.
