Rwanda has signed a three-year agreement with US AI company Anthropic to introduce artificial intelligence tools into the country’s education, healthcare, and public sector systems.
Rwanda’s ICT and Innovation Minister Paula Ingabire described the partnership as a major step in the country’s AI development, saying Rwanda wants to deploy AI solutions at a national level to improve learning, advance health outcomes, and enhance governance in ways that fit the local context.
Anthropic said the deal is its first multi-sector government partnership in Africa, building on an earlier education initiative announced in November 2025.
The collaboration will focus on key health priorities such as eliminating cervical cancer and reducing malaria and maternal mortality. It also formalizes education support, including 2,000 Claude Professional licences for Rwandan educators, AI training for public servants, and an AI-powered learning companion to be used across several African countries.
