The Somali army has carried out a planned operation, killing at least four Al Shabab terrorists, local media reported on Sunday.

The operation, with the support of international partners, on Saturday targeted the Al Shabaab positions in Nooleye village, located in the central region of Galguduud, according to the state-run Somali National News Agency (SONNA).

Since July, the Somali army, with the support of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and other international partners, has increased operations against the Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group in Somalia’s south and central provinces.

The army, on Saturday, September 6, reported it had conducted airstrikes that killed 12 Al Shabab terrorists, including senior ringleaders, while 13 sustained life-threatening injuries.

One week later, the army, backed by locals, repelled a multi-pronged Al Shabab attack in the strategic town of El-Dheer in the central province of Galgadud, killing over 30 terrorists.

Al Shabab, which has waged an insurgency against the Somali government for more than 16 years, frequently targets security forces, officials, and civilians.
