South African police have deployed divers to search for a firearm believed to have been used in a shooting at the Johannesburg home of Robert Mugabe’s son.
The incident happened Thursday at a residence in Hyde Park, an upscale suburb north of Johannesburg. A gardener working at the property was shot and remains in critical condition in hospital.
According to reports, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe was arrested along with another man in connection with the shooting. Both have been charged with attempted murder. He was reportedly seen in handcuffs at the scene after police arrived.
Investigators are now searching for the missing gun allegedly used in the incident. Police divers have been brought in to examine the property’s swimming pool as part of the expanded investigation.
Authorities say the motive behind the shooting is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
