Humanitarian volunteers in Sudan are increasingly exposed to violence as clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue to devastate the country.
According to UN officials, the worsening security landscape has placed community kitchen workers at particular risk. These volunteers, who provide food to displaced and famine-stricken families, have reportedly been kidnapped, assaulted or killed. It remains uncertain whether they are targeted because of their relief work or suspected affiliations in a deeply polarized conflict.
In Darfur — especially in and around Al Fasher — the situation has become catastrophic. After months of siege, RSF forces overran the city last October, leaving thousands dead and forcing tens of thousands to flee. With food supplies collapsing and famine spreading, community kitchens have become essential for survival — yet operating them now carries life-threatening risks.
