Sudan’s government has condemned a deadly drone strike in White Nile State that killed at least 17 civilians in the village of Shukeiri, accusing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out the attack.

In a statement reported by the Sudan News Agency, Prime Minister Kamil Idris and members of the government described the strike as a heinous act and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

The government said the drone attack targeted civilians and urged the international community to hold the RSF accountable, calling for the paramilitary group to be designated a terrorist organisation.

According to medical officials, the strike hit a secondary school and a health centre on Wednesday, killing mostly schoolgirls and injuring about 10 others.

The Sudanese Doctors Network said the victims included female students, teachers and a health worker, accusing the RSF of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure.

The group also reported that several other civilian sites—including a student dormitory, a power station and residential neighbourhoods—have been attacked in recent days.

Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the national army and the Rapid Support Forces. The war has killed tens of thousands of people and forced millions to flee their homes.
