The World Health Organization says five attacks on healthcare facilities in Sudan have killed at least 69 people and injured 49 since the start of 2026.
According to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a hospital in Sennar state was struck last Sunday, killing three patients and wounding seven others. Earlier this month, more than 30 people died when medical centres were targeted in South Kordofan, an area heavily affected by fighting.
Since the war between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces began in April 2023, at least 206 attacks on healthcare facilities have been recorded. The conflict has severely damaged the country’s fragile medical system, with over a third of facilities now out of service.
Beyond violence, Sudan faces major disease outbreaks including cholera, malaria, dengue and measles, along with rising malnutrition. The war has killed tens of thousands, displaced 11 million people and created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
