The dynamics of trade unions in the education and training sector, along with the Education and Vocational Training Unions Coalition, decided late at night on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, to cancel their planned 48-hour strike, initially scheduled for Thursday, December 5, and Friday, December 6, 2024.
Following the submission of the 48-hour strike notice, a meeting was held between Minister Elisabeth Sherif, a group representing the dynamics of the education sector unions, and the Education and Vocational Training Unions Coalition. The aim was to observe this dynamic on December 5 and 6.
Indeed, from December 2 to 4, discussions were held between the two parties around a platform of demands. After constructive talks, an agreement was signed between Minister Elisabeth Sherif and the union representatives, leading to the withdrawal of the strike call.
At the signing ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Elisabeth Sherif thanked the union representatives for their efforts in pursuing “realistic changes” and congratulated them.
She later expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister, stating, “We thank him for taking the time to listen to us, and we reconfirm our gratitude to the CNSP President for continually encouraging this spirit of listening and for all the support he provides to foster dialogue among the children of this nation, so that we may progress together and develop this country.”
Issoufou Shérif, spokesperson for the dynamics of the education sector unions, said, “In order to provide an opportunity for sincere, open, and constructive dialogue, the group representing the education sector unions and the Education and Vocational Training Unions Coalition decided to lift the strike notice for December 5 and 6, 2024.”
“However, general informational meetings will be held on the planned dates to clarify the contents of this joint statement,” he added.
