In the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak, citizens travel 200 kilometers to collect “sirik” grass on the Faraşin Plateau and contribute to the family economy.
The 2,650-altitude Faraşin Plateau in the district is filled with endemic plant species that flourish with the arrival of spring. Those who come to the plateau from 200 kilometers away collect sirik grass, which is added into cheese accompanied by a unique view. Citizens, who sell the herb for 100 liras per kilogram, said they stay on the plateau for days to collect the herb.
Mehmet Bahşiş, one of the citizens, said, “It is very beautiful here. Last year it came earlier this year. We come from Cizre and Şırnak to collect the siric herb that is added into cheese. It has a very beautiful nature.”
