Turkey’s pavilion, centered on the “Zero Waste” theme, received significant attention from participants.
At Turkey’s pavilion, the Zero Waste Project, initiated under the leadership of Emine Erdoğan, spouse of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chair of the UN Zero Waste Advisory Board, was highlighted. Visitors read and signed the Global Zero Waste Goodwill Declaration, committing to a cleaner world. This declaration aims to promote sustainable environmental management by preventing waste and efficiently using resources.
To date, the declaration has been endorsed by over 40 first ladies and international representatives. Individuals can also join the initiative digitally, becoming zero waste ambassadors and receiving personalized certificates.
Showcasing Turkey’s Environmental Projects
The Turkish pavilion featured key environmental initiatives, including renewable energy projects, efforts to combat climate change, heirloom seed preservation, and the Zero Waste Project. Digital holograms and 3D visuals showcased Turkey’s endemic plants and endangered animals.
Key highlights included:
- “From Waste to Art” Exhibition: Displaying products made from recycled materials.
- “Green Turkey” Exhibition: Highlighting Turkey’s natural richness and biodiversity.
- Water Efficiency Campaign: Sharing strategies to reduce water losses.
International Cooperation and Awareness
COP29 brought together 72,000 participants from 169 countries, aiming to raise awareness on environmental and climate change issues. Turkey’s theme underscored the importance of sustainable resource use and fostering international collaboration to enhance environmental consciousness.
These initiatives serve as a significant example, not just for Turkey but for global environmental goals.
