Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held separate phone calls with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss the ongoing ceasefire process involving Iran and broader regional developments.

During his conversation with Sharif, Erdoğan expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in facilitating the truce in the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. He emphasized that the current two-week ceasefire represents a critical opportunity that must be used effectively to achieve lasting peace and stability. Sharif, in turn, acknowledged Türkiye’s contributions to the diplomatic process, as both leaders reviewed the latest developments surrounding the agreement.

In a separate call with Qatar’s emir, Erdoğan highlighted that the ceasefire has opened a significant window for de-escalation. He stressed that this opportunity “must not be squandered,” urging all parties to use the pause in hostilities to advance broader diplomatic negotiations. He also reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting regional dialogue and long-term stability.

Erdoğan conveyed condolences to Qatar following recent attacks and praised Doha’s measured and constructive response to rising tensions.

The diplomatic outreach comes amid heightened regional instability triggered by attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, followed by Iranian retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and other countries hosting US military assets. Tehran also imposed restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for global energy supplies.

With mediation led by Pakistan, the United States and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire, while further negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent settlement are scheduled to take place in Islamabad.
