A prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine was brokered by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). 90 Russian and 90 Ukrainian soldiers returned home.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement on the prisoner exchange, “Home is not just a word. Home is Ukraine. Today, 90 more of our people returned home from Russian captivity.
We remember all our people in Russian captivity. We continue to work for the release of each of them. We seek the truth about everyone who may be in the hands of the enemy. I am grateful to our team dealing with the exchanges. I thank the UAE for their help in the release of these people. Together we can achieve even the most difficult results.”
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that 90 Russian soldiers were evacuated from the Ukrainian regions and said, “The released soldiers will be transported to Moscow by Russian military transport aircraft to receive treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities under the Russian Defense Ministry.
All released servicemen will be provided with the necessary medical and psychological assistance. The United Arab Emirates acted as a humanitarian mediator in the return of Russian servicemen from captivity.”
UAE WE THANK BOTH COUNTRIES
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked both countries and said that the agreement is a symbol of friendship between the UAE and the two countries.
“The success of the new mediation, which is considered the fifth of its kind since the beginning of this year, is a concrete example of the friendship and partnership relations between the UAE and the two countries and the fact that it is seen as a reliable mediator for both sides. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the governments of the Russian Federation and Ukraine for their cooperation, which ensured the success of the UAE’s efforts,” the Foreign Ministry said.
