Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held separate phone calls with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss the Iran ceasefire and broader regional developments.

During his exchange with Sharif, Erdoğan praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts in securing the truce between Iran and its adversaries. He emphasized that the ongoing two-week ceasefire presents a crucial opportunity that must be used effectively to achieve long-term peace and stability. Sharif, in turn, acknowledged Türkiye’s diplomatic role, as both leaders reviewed the latest progress surrounding the agreement.

In his call with Qatar’s emir, Erdoğan highlighted that the ceasefire has opened a meaningful window for de-escalation. He warned that this opportunity “must not be squandered,” urging all parties to use the pause in hostilities to advance wider diplomatic negotiations. He also reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting regional dialogue and sustainable peace.

Erdoğan extended condolences to Qatar following recent attacks and commended Doha’s measured response to escalating tensions.

The diplomatic outreach comes amid heightened instability triggered by U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, followed by Iranian retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and countries hosting U.S. military assets. Tehran also restricted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.

With Pakistan’s mediation, the United States and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire, while further negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent resolution are set to take place in Islamabad.
