A group of experts from the United Nations has strongly condemned military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran and escalating attacks in Lebanon, describing them as “flagrant violations of international law.”

In a statement released in London, the experts warned that the conflict could spread across the Middle East and create a dangerous precedent where powerful military states act without accountability.

They argued that the joint US–Israeli attack on Iran violates international law and amounts to an act of aggression. The experts also criticized statements from US President Donald Trump calling for Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and suggesting that the US could influence Iran’s future leadership.

According to the statement, no human rights concerns in Iran justify foreign military intervention or interference in the sovereignty of a UN member state. The experts stressed that the Iranian people alone have the right to determine their political future.

They also called for an independent investigation into several reported attacks that may violate international humanitarian law. These include the bombing of a girls’ school in Iran that reportedly killed at least 180 students, strikes on oil refineries that caused environmental damage, and attacks on a desalination plant.

The experts additionally condemned Israel’s escalation of military operations in Lebanon, warning that orders forcing residents of southern Lebanon and southern Beirut to evacuate their homes may be illegal.

The current crisis escalated after the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, which Iranian authorities say has killed more than 1,300 people and injured over 10,000, including the country’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as regional locations in Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states hosting US military bases.
