Vladimir Putin spoke in favor of strengthening trade and investment ties with Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
According to a statement from the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Senegalese counterpart Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye discussed counterterrorism efforts in the Saharan-Sahel and West African regions during a phone call on Friday.
The presidential office stated that the two leaders emphasized strengthening Russia-Senegal relations, particularly in the fields of energy, transport, and agriculture, through trade, investment, and joint projects.
The statement said, “The situation in the Saharan-Sahel and West Africa was reviewed, with a focus on the instability caused by terrorist organizations.”
Putin also invited Faye to visit Russia.
The conversation coincided with news of Faye’s ruling party securing a large majority in the parliament in elections held earlier this week. The results were announced on Thursday.
