Momentum is building across the continent as qualification for the FIBA Basketball World Cup gathers pace ahead of the tournament in Qatar.

The second qualifying window (February 26–March 1) features eight nations competing in two groups across Dakar and Alexandria.

Group B – Dakar

Hosted at the Marius Ndiaye Gymnasium in Dakar, Group B includes:

  • Côte d’Ivoire

  • Democratic Republic of the Congo

  • Madagascar

  • Senegal

Group D – Alexandria

Hosted in Alexandria, Group D features:

  • Angola

  • Egypt

  • Mali

  • Uganda

Four teams — Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, and Senegal — are former AfroBasket champions and recent World Cup participants. Angola stands out, having qualified for each of the last six World Cups.

Meanwhile, Madagascar begins its first-ever World Cup qualifying campaign.

The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, where 12 nations will compete for Africa’s five spots in Qatar. With every game counting, the race is wide open.
