Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen Praises Ethiopia’s Recent Reforms at the Red Sea International Film Festival

Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen praised Ethiopia’s recent series of reforms, highlighting that these reforms had been successfully implemented as a carefully crafted and well-planned program.

The Kingdom of Denmark’s Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen was warmly welcomed today by Ethiopian Finance Minister Ahmed Shide. Minister Shide expressed gratitude for Denmark’s ongoing support in areas aligned with Ethiopia’s development priorities, particularly in agriculture, food security, livelihood improvement, governance, and democratic participation. He also praised Denmark’s contributions to climate resilience, mitigation, and adaptation initiatives.

Shide emphasized the need to increase cooperation in areas such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and green heritage programs. He also underlined the importance of Ethiopia’s bold reforms aimed at addressing domestic economic imbalances, ensuring external debt sustainability, and fostering private-sector-led growth, as part of the country’s Domestic Economic Reform (DER) Agenda.

Shide pointed out that projects like the Assela Wind Farm, supported through Denmark’s Sustainable Infrastructure Finance (DSIF) instrument, which finances large-scale infrastructure projects in developing countries, require further support in terms of scale and volume. He stressed that such projects play a critical role in Ethiopia’s sustainable development.

Additionally, Shide highlighted Ethiopia’s strategic role in regional peace and security and its efforts to promote both physical and digital regional connectivity under the Horn of Africa Initiative. He invited the Danish government to participate in these initiatives, emphasizing the importance of Denmark’s consistent support and the significance of the visit.

Minister Nicolai Wammen praised Ethiopia’s progress in its reform process and reiterated Denmark’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s reform agenda. Wammen reaffirmed Denmark’s dedication to continuing its cooperation with Ethiopia and ensuring the successful implementation of these projects.

The Danish Ambassador also announced the launch of a new Country Framework Program with Ethiopia, which will include new areas of cooperation in agriculture, food security, climate initiatives, and clean energy.
