Ethiopia and Japan Sign a $9.6 Million Grant Agreement for Educational Development in the Sidama Region.
The governments of Ethiopia and Japan have signed a $9.6 million grant agreement to improve secondary school infrastructure in the Sidama Region. As part of the “Development of Secondary Schools in Sidama Region” project, five new secondary schools will be built, and these schools will be equipped with modern educational tools such as student desks, chairs, and laboratory equipment.
The project is expected to benefit around 3,600 students. Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, praised Japan’s support for Ethiopia’s development priorities, stating that this cooperation in education will contribute to peace, stability, and economic growth.
Japan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Shibata Hironori, emphasized that education is the cornerstone of a nation, adding that this initiative would further strengthen the friendship between the two countries. The agreement highlights the importance of international support in Ethiopia’s ongoing reform process.
