The Italian community honors the Mediterranean diet and traditional cuisine during Food Week, celebrated from November 23 to 30, 2024.
In a statement from the Italian Embassy in Niger, it was announced that “from November 23 to 30, 2024, the new edition of World Italian Cuisine Week, an annual event this time dedicated to the Mediterranean diet, traditional cuisine, health, and tradition, will take place.”
Therefore, “the 2024 World Italian Cuisine Week proposal in Niamey, continuing from previous editions and always receiving great interest and success from the public, will delight in sharing a series of activities focused on festive pleasures from breakfast to lunch, with initiatives ranging from appetizers to the gala dinner. These initiatives aim to offer professional training and promote solidarity efforts for an audience of amateurs or professionals wishing to deepen their knowledge, thanks to the generous support of the Embassy’s partners.”
This Week is « an unmissable opportunity to celebrate the richness of Italian cuisine and its deep connection to memory, region, and health,” emphasizes the Embassy, stating it is « a culturally significant event that bridges the past and future of the table, weaving connections between deep roots and new perspectives. »
On this occasion, it was stated that « food becomes culture, and food tells a story. Italy, through its cuisine, has been in dialogue with the world for centuries, and each Italian dish continues to convey a universal message of festivity, harmony, and a love for beauty, even far from its lands of origin.”
The source concludes by explaining that « the Mediterranean diet, recognized by UNESCO, is indeed a symbol of the balance between man and nature, a lifestyle nourished by simplicity and authenticity. »
