Niger inaugurates a corn-based pasta production facility, aiming to promote job creation and boost local employment opportunities.
A new corn-based pasta production facility is set to be established by SOS Agro Business in Niamey’s 4th district. Local media has highlighted the project as a significant step toward the nation’s development.
Zeinabou Ibrahim, Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Hydraulics, Sanitation, and Environment, noted that pasta is becoming increasingly popular in Niger, particularly in urban areas. She emphasized its role in meeting the needs of a rapidly urbanizing population.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to reduce Niger’s reliance on imports by focusing on pasta production from locally sourced raw materials such as corn, the country’s second most cultivated grain after millet. Corn is a vital component of food security for both humans and livestock.
